The Messy Life of a Teenage Girl {Thoughts and Emotions Everyone Has While Sick in Bed}

a0e46367afa5f593b13820c434db6164

Laying around sick has me (rotting) on my Kindle Fire most of the day. Unless I’m sleeping, which happens a lot. So, here’s a few thoughts and emotions everyone (well, maybe just me) has when they’re sick:

The first stages:

1. Gosh I’m tired. Why am I so tired? Coffee, yes I need coffee, that’s why.

2. What the heck?! I never cough! WAIT. NO.

3. It’s probably just allergies. Yeah, that’s it.

Realization:

1. I give up. I’m definitely getting sick.

2. MOOOOMMM! Where’s all the Kleenex we just bought?

3. MOOOOMMM! Where’s the thermometer?

4. MOOOOMMM! Can you go buy some Ramen and ice cream?

Mid-sickness:

1. I’m burning up, but this pill is SO HUGE. There’s just no way. *starts crying*

2. It’s only nine and I’m falling asleep on the best book I’ve ever read? No way, I’m gonna fight i-*falls asleep*

3. The toilet is so far…. I really have to go though…. I just can’t get out of bed, I just can’t. *cries again*

4. This toilet seat is FREEZING!

5. I’ve blown my nose twenty times in the last five minutes, and its still coming strong! HOW IS THERE ANYTHING LEFT?!

6. I would rather just die right now.

7. Look sir, I promise I’m not running a drug front in my house. Just hand.over.the.cold.tablets and nobody gets hurt.

 The after-sickness stage:

1. How many times have I kicked over that blasted trash can?!

2. No, I’m not contagious.

3. Nope, not contagious.

4. Would a girl who’s mom is a nurse let her be here when she’s contagious?! NO!

5. How am I still blowing my nose?

6. They think, “Oh, we’ll put a cute little saying over the tissue box, and it’ll make them feel so much better!” Wrong. Who cares about tissue boxes when you’re blowing six years worth of boogers out. Unless they have a Tardis tissue box….That would be pretty cool!

Lovely Pictures {Spring Time in Texas}

I’m one of those people that hates winter. You know, the one that complains on Facebook, and the one who takes selfies with five jackets on and says something like “I hate you winterrrr! #summercomeback”. The one that you probably unfollow until spring. Yep, that’s me!

But fear no more, for spring has finally come! The blue bonnets are slowly peeping out of the warming earth, that new green color is beginning to lace the trees, and we Texans are digging our shorts and tank tops out half way through March. Spring is the sign of life. The resurrection of nature. I find it so intriguing that when God created the seasons, he arranged them to perfectly mirror his Son, who is the Resurrection and the Life. He’s alive, Halleluiah!

The neighbors probably think I’m crazy since I went tromping around the block to the greenbelt behind my house wearing red Nike shorts, a t-shirt, pink hound’s tooth rain boots, and a bulky camera bag slung around my shoulder. Then, some of these I just took on my back deck. Enjoy, Y’all!

Can you find the lady bug? Yellow lady bugs just make me so happy. 🙂

Beauty in the Challenges {“Radical” by David Platt}

A few months ago, I had the amazing experience of being in a small, intimate life group lead by an incredible young woman. We met in a local coffee shop every Sunday evening to discuss David Platt’s book “Radical”. Hearing that this would probably be one of the most challenging books I would ever read, I was curious and excited, especially since one of the responses I heard from another reader was, “This guy hates church!” Once I read the first chapter, I could see what he meant. No, David Platt does not hate church-not entirely anyway-he only says everything you need to hear. He boldly shows the reader exactly what Jesus is teaching, how it applies to every Believer’s life, and how we must respond. He shows us that obedience to God first, radical abandonment of our culture’s pattern, and how the call for all Followers of Jesus to go to all the nations is why we are on earth.  I’ve explained it the best I can, but I encourage you strongly to read it. Read it once, read it twice, share it with a friend, because it will radically wreck your life. Through this book, Jesus Christ radically changed me.

I will be doing a Book Club entry in the future on this book, but for now, I’ve pulled up a few quotes so you can get a taste of how crazy this book is.

Beautiful Quotes {Jim Elliot}

This quote is one of my most favorite quotes EVER because it totally inspires me to preserver through all things, and not only to keep going, but to do it well. To be there 100%. To sacrifice myself for the cause, or the person. To focus not on myself, but to be totally committed to whatever I’m doing. To just rock it in the name of Jesus. This not only applies to what out attitudes should be in our spiritual walk, but with anything we do. Whether it’s doing algebra (this is hardest for me), or living a healthier lifestyle, or working for a living. It’s ultimately all for God’s glory, so be.all.there.

Book Club {What Happens When Young Women Say Yes to God}

Life Group. Well, that’s an interesting name for a Bible study. It sounds like a name for a group at a hippie church or something, but I like it because it just feels deeper somehow. The group itself is for the high school girls at my church, and we meet every Sunday evening to discuss a book that we’ve chosen to read for that semester. For this semester, we’re reading “What Happens When Young Women Say Yes to God” by Lysa Terkeurst and her daughter, Hope.

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical at first, saying “Psh, I let God do whatever He wants to do in my life!” Wrong. I don’t. I hear His whispers and a lot of the time I just ignore them unless it’s something that I want to do. That’s what I realized once I started reading this book, and it’s eye opening.

The writing is convicting; it’s inspiring. The author pushes the important fact that saying yes to God means you will enter into a beautiful love story and adventure with the King. How exciting does that sound?! I love adventures, and so far, Jesus has been the most exciting adventure of all.

“The more we say yes to God, the more we will live in expectation of seeing Him. The more you experience Him, the more you’ll open up your hands and heart in absolute faithfulness to receive what He is offering, saying, asking, or requiring.”-Lysa TerkeurstWhatHappensWhenYoungWomenSayYesToGod_1024x1024

He Beautifies {Psalms 103:1-6}

Yay to first time posts! 🙂 As you know, the purpose of this blog is to display all things beautiful and finding the beauty in the challenging topics as well. This is my theme verse for all my posts and categories.

Psalms 103:1-6
“Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all of His benefits- Who forgives all of your iniquities, Who heals all of your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit and corruption, Who beautifies, Who dignifies, and Who crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercy; Who satisfies your mouth with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle’s! The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.”
