Bible Study {Isaiah}

I’m doing this Bible reading plan to help me along and keep me on course, since I struggle so much with having regular quiet times. So far, it’s been very helpful! Making sure that it doesn’t just become another thing to “check off” can be tempting, but that’s usually when I go off the plan and let the Holy Spirit choose the chapter of the night.

Anyway, right now it’s taking me through Isaiah, Psalms, and Acts. Psalms and Acts are fantastic, but for me Isaiah is the real surprise here. There’s always been kind of an avoidance of the book because it does contain chapters of God in his wrath, causing me to shy away. But as I’m going through each chapter, I find verses like these:

“And now The Lord says- he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of The Lord and God has been my strength.” Isaiah 49:5

Where “Jacob” and “Israel” stand in this verse, turns into a blank for all of us. We will be called to bring back maybe Round Rock, Texas, or a remote tribe in the jungle! I just get so excited over that!

“See I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” Isaiah 49:16

If I had any artistic drawing or painting skills of any kind, I would paint the picture in my head right now. Strong, large hands that have my
name carved into them?! The same hands that healed the leaper’s spots, who held little children, and the same hands that had nails hammered through them so that I might have freedom and hope.

Picture that.

Beautiful Quotes {George Washington}

I just discovered a love for the words of the wise people of this world. They bring me such comfort and increase to thirst for wisdom deep in me. For a history assignment the past week, I had to look up fifteen quotes from George Washington. What a wise and devoted man! Here are a few of my favorites:

“To be prepared for war is one of the most affective means of preserving peace.”

“If freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we will be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”

“Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains to bring it to light.”

“Observe good faith and justice towards all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all.”

Bible Study {World’s Best Catcher}

Yesterday I hung my hammock in a nearby park and was relaxing, when a little girl came over and started climbing the tree I was hanging on. She wasn’t bothering me at all, I’m fact, I thought she was quite adorable. Following close behind was her dad, and he stood behind her as she started to climb up the tree. In her little squeaky voice, she said, “Daddy? You’ll catch me if I fall, right?” That comment squeezed my tender heart, lemme tell ya!

“Who will catch me if I fall?”

I truly believe that toughest, most independent women out there are asking the same question, and longing for the same “oneness” that we all desire.

Lucky for women (and men) everywhere, Jesus came.

The Lord Almighty says, “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall.” Psalms 55:22

“If you make the Most High your dwelling-even the Lord who is my refuge-then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near to your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Psalms 91:9-12

“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Psalms 91:4

I don’t know your life story. I don’t know your father and if he’s hurt you or not, but I do know that there’s a lot of kids out there who don’t have a father. I’m here to tell y’all that you do have a Father, and He is the perfect, all-knowing, protector, and peace. Whether you trip, fall, or dive off a cliff, He’s gonna catch you.

Beautiful Quotes {If Jesus Christ….}

“If Jesus Christ, the holy and perfect God, can die the most horrific death known to the Romans to forgive a world of ungrateful sinners, we should be able to forgive anyone 77×7 times.”

This is what my D-now leader told me when I said, “I just can’t forgive him!” She made a lasting impact on my life by saying that, and I hope it will stick with you too.

Beautiful Quotes {Jim Elliot}

This quote is one of my most favorite quotes EVER because it totally inspires me to preserver through all things, and not only to keep going, but to do it well. To be there 100%. To sacrifice myself for the cause, or the person. To focus not on myself, but to be totally committed to whatever I’m doing. To just rock it in the name of Jesus. This not only applies to what out attitudes should be in our spiritual walk, but with anything we do. Whether it’s doing algebra (this is hardest for me), or living a healthier lifestyle, or working for a living. It’s ultimately all for God’s glory, so be.all.there.

Book Club {What Happens When Young Women Say Yes to God}

Life Group. Well, that’s an interesting name for a Bible study. It sounds like a name for a group at a hippie church or something, but I like it because it just feels deeper somehow. The group itself is for the high school girls at my church, and we meet every Sunday evening to discuss a book that we’ve chosen to read for that semester. For this semester, we’re reading “What Happens When Young Women Say Yes to God” by Lysa Terkeurst and her daughter, Hope.

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical at first, saying “Psh, I let God do whatever He wants to do in my life!” Wrong. I don’t. I hear His whispers and a lot of the time I just ignore them unless it’s something that I want to do. That’s what I realized once I started reading this book, and it’s eye opening.

The writing is convicting; it’s inspiring. The author pushes the important fact that saying yes to God means you will enter into a beautiful love story and adventure with the King. How exciting does that sound?! I love adventures, and so far, Jesus has been the most exciting adventure of all.

“The more we say yes to God, the more we will live in expectation of seeing Him. The more you experience Him, the more you’ll open up your hands and heart in absolute faithfulness to receive what He is offering, saying, asking, or requiring.”-Lysa TerkeurstWhatHappensWhenYoungWomenSayYesToGod_1024x1024

He Beautifies {Psalms 103:1-6}

Yay to first time posts! 🙂 As you know, the purpose of this blog is to display all things beautiful and finding the beauty in the challenging topics as well. This is my theme verse for all my posts and categories.

Psalms 103:1-6
“Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all of His benefits- Who forgives all of your iniquities, Who heals all of your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit and corruption, Who beautifies, Who dignifies, and Who crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercy; Who satisfies your mouth with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle’s! The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.”
